MA English Language Teaching

Introduction

In this program students are encouraged to develop an understanding of the underlying principles of language teaching and of ways in which these might be applied in the solution of particular problems in the field of English language teaching to learners from diverse backgrounds.

The course is taught by means of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. In addition, there is much guided reading and a number of written assignments in the form of long essays and portfolios of materials. The course offers a good balance between theory, practice and research related to students learning second and foreign languages . It also provides the students with an opportunity to acquire specialist knowledge to prepare them for a variety of future careers in senior positions in teacher training institutes, ministries of education, publishing companies, schools and universities. Moreover, the students are also introduced to research methodology which will assist them in carrying out the research for the dissertation with the support of a supervisor.
