Program Overview:
The Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Modern Languages is set to launch a four-year BS in English Language and Literature program starting from September 2025, for the first time in UET’s history spanning over a century. The BS in English Language and Literature is a comprehensive four-year program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the English language, its literature, and its cultural contexts. The program combines the study of literary texts from various periods and genres with a rigorous exploration of linguistic principles, language acquisition, and the practical application of language skills. Students will engage with both classic and contemporary literary works, acquire a comprehensive understanding of linguistics, develop critical thinking and analytical abilities, and enhance their written and spoken communication in English. This program prepares graduates for diverse career paths in education, publishing, media, communication, research, and other fields that require strong English proficiency and cultural literacy.
Program Objectives:
- To expose students to a wide range of literary works across different historical periods, genres, and cultural backgrounds.
- To cultivate students’ ability to critically analyze literary texts, identify themes, interpret meanings, and evaluate literary techniques.
- To provide students with a strong foundation in the principles of linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics.
- To equip students with the research skills necessary to conduct independent literary and linguistic analysis, write scholarly papers, and engage in academic discourse.
- To prepare students for a variety of career opportunities in fields such as education, publishing, journalism, media, communication, translation, and research.
Eligibility Criteria
- 12 years of education (FA/F.Sc or equivalent)
- Minimum 50% marks in intermediate or equivalent
