Inauguration of Female Students’ Hostel

According to the UNESCO groundbreaking report “Cracking the code: Girls’ and women’s education in STEM”, only 35% of STEM students in higher education globally are women. Therefore, empowering and facilitating female students in these fields is paramount. On September 8, 2022, Mr. Baligh-ur-Rehman, Governor, Punjab, was invited to inaugurate a hostel for 300 female students at UET Lahore. The hostel has been completed with an expenditure of around Rs. 144 million as a part of the development project PC-1 titled “Provision of New Facilities and Infrastructure” at UET Lahore.

Dr. Mehvish Riaz represented the Department of Humanities in the inauguration ceremony. The faculty members serving at the Department of Humanities strongly support women empowerment, and acknowledge that an empowered, facilitated, and protected woman will not only identify solutions to persistent challenges but also empower the upcoming generations. The efforts made by HEC personnel, Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor, UET, his team, and everyone involved in facilitating female students are highly commendable.
